During the school holidays the JusB youth project runs several youth projects in the community. Our half-term programmes have included trampolining, tennis and bowling, ice skating and rowing.
The summer programme for this year is a lot different to other years, and we had to be creative and adapt it from what we would normally be able to run to comply with social distancing and other restrictions in force at the time.
However, our youth work team have worked hard to produce a varied and fun programme that the young people have enjoyed taking part in.
To keep the programme varied, we are using different park locations in the area.
We have been to Chinbrook Meadows, Church House Gardens, Shaftesbury Park and Beckenham Place Park.
Other challenges are that adjustments may have to be made to the programme at short notice, due to unsettled weather conditions.
Here are a selection of the photos...
We had an enjoyable time visting the Natural History Museum in South Kensington and on the same day went ice-skating just outside the Museum. A good time was had by all. The next day we stayed in Bromley and a group of young people went to Nandos in Bromley for lunch with the youth work team, which was a very relaxed and sociable occasion.
We had a busy summer programme which included a trip to the London Eye and a Thames River Cruise, a day at the beach in Margate,
a visit to the Houses of Parliament with sightseeing including Buckingham Palace and St. James' park, an active day at Downe Scout Adventures, together with a cooking workshop and drug and alcohol workshop. All in a all a packed 3 weeks of activities.
Over the end of May half term, Jus B ran two trips out for our young people. The first trip was to the Dinosaur Adventure Mini Golf in Sidcup, where two teams of young people played separate courses with two winners, Lucas from our Kids Fun Club and Louise from the Jus B evening sessions! It was a day we will never FORE-get (golf pun!).
The second trip was to the Air Jump trampoline park in Orpington, we made our way there on the train, which was great fun. The jumping session was 1 hour long, by the end the young people were exhausted after, doing flips, somersaults, playing basketball, reaction time games, jumping off a platform onto a big bean bag and battles against each other over a foam pit. After the trip we were over the moon…I think the trampolines were more powerful than we expected!
During the Easter holidays, we organised a trip to London with a group of young people and they had great fun when they visited the London Dungeons. Another day we went to Chislehurst Caves.
Summer programme 2018
During the month of August we had a diverse range of activities planned which included Ice-skating, Quasar, indoor rock climbing and Downe Scouts Centre with high ropes and other team-building activities. We also started to transform our old IT room into our new Tranquil room over the summer.
During the Easter holidays we had some cookery sessions and made some shortbread and pizzas.
Half-Term activities February 2018
Thanks to one of our young people choosing to use their Jack Petchey award for ice-skating, a group of young people and staff had a fun time at the Lee Valley Ice Rink in half-term. The session started with a 1 hour instruction by a qualified ice-skating coach to go through the basics and then go on to give some more advanced tips. After this, there was time to go around the ice rink free style. A good time was enjoyed by all!
We have planned a full and exciting summer programme, ranging from learning new skills at Downe Adventure park with archery and abseilling; a day at Hastings on the beach and town and learning trampolining skills in Croydon. We have also had a picnic in Beckenham Place park with games and looking forward to learning the basics of Calisthenics and Rock Climbing. We have also been creative with crafts and baking. The holidays kicked off with treats at a local ice cream cafe, thanks to one of our Jack Petchey winners.
Film making - 'Now you see me'
A short film created by young people on a Film making workshop as part of our Summer programme in 2016. The young people planned the storylines and worked on the filming with an industry professional.
